National Meningococcal Awareness Day

Friday 2nd September 2011

On Friday 2nd September 2011 we are asking the community to recognise the challenge of life without a limb for 15 minutes. Whether you're at home, school or in your workplace – we are encouraging people to deny the use of their right arm and wear the colour purple. Meningococcal Disease has claimed the limbs and lives of so many Australians.

Meningococcal Disease is a rare bacterial disease that can cause death within minutes if not recognised and treated immediately.

Every year hundreds of Australians contract Meningococcal Disease. We are determined that this disease will not claim the life or limb of your loved ones. Our organisation promotes education, awareness and research. We also provide support to those who have suffered the disease and endure ongoing challenge. Your donation towards our objectives can be the difference between life and death.

"In advance, we thank the community for their support of our National Day, their confidence in our foundation and for their desire to continue to 'make a difference' to the health and well-being of all Australians". – Meningococcal Australia.
